Reduced power losses | Legrand Mauritius

LIMITING POWER LOSSES

In order to improve the performance of the electrical infrastructure in data centers, it is necessary to look at solutions to reduce power losses related to power transformation and UPS (Uninterruptible Power Supply) via power and distribution systems.

Nowadays, power losses related to energy transformation and UPS (Uninterruptible Power Supply) represent about 10% of the total energy consumption of a data center, while cooling alone represents 32%.

In view of the efforts made on the cooling side, in particular through designs that allow the use of free cooling, these power losses will take up a significant part of the data center's energy balance.

In order to improve the efficiency of the electrical infrastructure, it is therefore necessary to look at solutions that reduce this percentage, particularly via the power supply and distribution systems.

CONTINUOUS POWER FEEDS ("UPS")

Guaranteeing a power demand as close as possible to real needs, UPSs with optimized energy efficiency enable a reduction in power losses: by increasing the efficiency of the UPS, it will give off less heat, which will reduce losses in cooling and consumption. Legrand offers UPS solutions that achieve efficiencies of up to 96% (double conversion VFI - Voltage Frequency Independent).

HT/BT GREEN T.HE TRANSFORMERS

They provide high energy efficiency and reduce the environmental footprint (less polluting substances). Thus, with these High Efficiency transformers, we observe on average 3 times less loss than with a standard transformer. Legrand's GreenT.HE offer brings you solutions with AoBk, AoAk and AAoAk loss levels. The classification according to EN 50588-1 standard stipulates that the transformer with the least reduced loss will be class AAoAk.

PDU PX® SMART PRODUCTS

Raritan's offering includes 230V and 415V models in hundreds of different configurations, including outlet-by-outlet monitoring for data center energy efficiency. Remote and "rack-level" data collection of current (amps), voltage, power (kVA, kW), and energy consumption (kWh) allows you to evaluate entire racks and individual IT equipment, identify racks consuming more power than necessary, and deploy "stray power.
